Bai Qian (Root and Rhizome of Cynanchum)

Latin Name: Cynachum Stautonii

Properties: acrid, sweet, neutral

Actions: expels phlegm, stops cough, descends rebellious Qi

Medical Indications: respiratory disorders such as bronchitis, asthma with abundance of phlegm, phlegm blockage, cough with profuse sputum

Contraindications: not to be used in cases of lung and Qi deficiency

Caution: to be used with caution in cases of bleeding or peptic ulcers

Dosage: 5 to 10 grams
