Rou Dou Kou (Nutmeg Seed)

Latin Name: Semen Myristicae Fragrantis

Properties: acrid, warm, toxic

Actions: binds intestines, stops diarrhea, moves Qi, alleviates pain, warms middle burner

Medical Indications: Cock’s drow diarrhea, chronic diarrhea, epigastric and abdominal pain and distention, nausea, vomiting, flatulence, poor appetite, topically: rheumatism, sprains and bruises, mouth sores, toothache

Contraindications: not to be used during pregnancy, not to be used in cases of diarrhea due to infection or food poisening, not to be used in patients with hemorrhoids

Caution: Rou Dou Kou is very toxic, large dosages can cause death dosage: 1.5 to 9 grams
