Niu Bang Zi (Great Burdock Fruit, Arctium)

Latin Name: Fructus Arctii Lappae

Properties: acrid, bitter, cold

Actions: expels wind heat, relieves sore throat, lubricates intestines, clears heat, relieves toxicity, promotes eruption of measles

Medical Indications: acute tonsillitis, red and swollen throat, cough, fever, red swellings, carbuncles, mumps, rashes, carbuncles, measles when rash has not vented completely, constipation due to wind heat

Contraindications: not to be used in cases of Qi deficiency, not to be used in cases of diarrhea, or open sores

Dosage: 3 to 9 grams
