Properties: bitter, cold

Actions: clears heat and fire, drains dampness, stops bleeding, sedates liver Yang, calms fetus

Medical Indications: high fever, irritability, thirst, cough with sputum due to heat and damp in upper Jiao, diarrhea, dysentery, painful urination, jaundice, epistaxis, bloody stool, bloody vomit, headaches, hypertension, red eyes and sore throat, threatened abortion

Contraindications: not to be used in cases with middle Jiao cold, lung Yin deficiency heat, restless fetus due to cold blood, not to be used together with anti-coagulant drugs, Li Lu and Mu Dan Pi

Dosage: 3 to 15 grams
