Zi Cao (Groomwell Root, Lithospermum, Arnebia)

Latin Name: Radix Arnebiae Seu Lithospermi

Properties: sweet, salty, cold

Actions: clears damp heat, relieves fire toxins, vents rashes, cools blood, unblocks bowels

Medical Indications: to encourage dark purple rashes in mumps, chickenpox, etc., purpura, vomiting blood, nosebleed, diarrhea with blood, bleeding in urinary tract, jaundice, eczema, dermatitis, boils, burns, vaginal itching, amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, constipation due to heat in blood

Contraindications: not to be used in measles

Caution: to be used with caution in cases of spleen and stomach deficiency with diarrhea

Dosage: 4 to 10 grams
