Zao Jiao (Chinese Honeylocust Fruit)

Latin Name: Fructus Gleditsiae

Properties: acrid, warm, slightly toxic

Actions: dispels phlegm, opens orifices, unblocks bowels, reduces swellings and abscesses, expels roundworms

Medical Indications: cough, chest congestion with abundance of phlegm, dyspnea, sudden loss of consciousness after stroke or in epilepsy due to excess phlegm, resuscitation of unconscious patients, abscesses and boils, roundworms with constipation

Contraindications: not to be used during pregnancy, not to be used in cases of Qi or Yin deficiency, not to be used in patients with bleeding tendeny

Dosage: 1 to 1.5 grams
