Xia Ku Cao (Selfheal Spike, Prunella)

Latin Name: Spica Prunellae

Properties: acrid, bitter, slightly cold

Actions: clears heat from liver, brightens eyes, dissipates nodules

Medical Indications: high blood pressure, headaches, dizziness, red, painful, and swollen eyes, swollen thyroid glands and other neck swellings due to phlegm fire, nodules, grofula, goiter mastitis

Contraindications: none

Caution: to be used with caution in cases of weak stomach and spleen

Dosage: 9 to 15 grams (up to 30 grams if used alone)
