Tian Men Dong (Asparagus Root)
Latin Name: Radix Asparagi
Properties: sweet, bitter, very cold
Actions: clears lung heat, tonifies kidney and lung Yin, generates fluids
Medical Indications: fever, thirst, dry cough, thick phlegm, chronic bronchitis, spitting blood, wasting and thirsting disorder, instant sweating, hot flashes, weakness in legs, spermatorrhea, constipation
Contraindications: not to be used in cases with diarrhea due to cold and middle Jiao deficiency, not to be used in cases with cough due to wind cold
Dosage: 6 to 15 grams
