Ming Fan (Alum)

Latin Name: Alumen

Properties: sour, astringent, cold

Actions: relieves toxicity, stops bleeding, alleviates diarrhea internally, kills parasites, dries dampness, stops itching, clears heat, expels phlegm

Medical Indications: scabies, ringworm, damp heat rash, jaundice, swollen painful eyes and throat, bloody diarrhea, bloody urine, hemorrhoidal bleeding, bleeding gums, nosebleed, cough with phlegm, delirium, irritability, convulsions

Contraindications: not to be used during pregnancy

Caution: not to be used in weak patients, not be used longterm

Dosage: 0.6 to 3 grams
