Mai Ya (Barley Sprout, Malt)

Latin Name: Fructus Hordei Vulgaris Germinatus

Properties: sweet, neutral

Actions: strengthens spllen and stomach, regulates liver Qi, reduces food stagnation, promotes and inhibits lactation

Medical Indications: poor digestion of starches and poor digestion of milk in infants, problems with lactation (large doses inhibit lactation, small doses promote lactation), distension in ribs and breast, loss of appetite, belching

Contraindications: not to be used in cases without food stagnation

Caution: large Dosage should not be used by mothers who wish to continue lactating

Dosage: 10 to 15 grams
