Latin Name: Fructus Aristolochiae

Properties: bitter, slightly acrid, cold, toxic

Actions: clears lungs, stops cough, transforms phlegm, clears heat in large intestine, reduces swelling, relieves pain, lowers blood pressure

Medical Indications: cough and wheezing, phlegm, bloody phlegm due to heat, hypertension, dizziness, and red face due to Yin deficiency and liver Yang rising, hemorrhoids

Contraindications: not to be used in cases of cough due to deficiency cold, not to be used in cases of diarrhea due to spleen deficiency

Caution: not to be used long term or in large doses

Dosage: 3 to 10 grams
