Fan Hong Hua (Saffron)

Latin Name: Crocus Sativus

Properties: acrid, warm

Actions: invigorates circulation, dispels stasis, promotes menstruation

Medical Indications: rheumatoid arthritis, irregular menses, pain from blood stasis after birth, stifling sensation and fullness in chest and diaphragm due to emotional distress, measles with blood stasis, coronary diseases, thromboangitis, enlargement of liver and spleen, physical injuries with blood stasis such as broken bones, sprains, and dislocated joints

Contraindications: not to be used during pregnancy, not to be used with heavy menses

Caution: overdosage can lead to intestinal colic, gastrointestinal bleeding, vomiting, disorientation, and convulsions

Dosage: 1.5 to 6 grams
