Chuan Jiao (Fruit of Sichuan Pepper)

Latin Name: Zanthoxylum Piperitum

Properties: acrid, spicy, hot, fragrant, toxic

Actions: alleviates pain, stops diarrhea, warms middle Jiao, kills parasites

Medical Indications: bloating of abdomen, edema, abundance of phlegm, tinnitus due to kidney deficiency, toothache, night sweat, intestinal parasites, eczema, pruritus

Contraindications: not to be used in cases of excess heat or Yin deficiency, not to be taken internally in cases of inflammation in lung, stomach, or colon

Caution: to be used with caution during pregnancy

Dosage: 3 to 5 grams
