Chong Wei Zi (Chinese Motherwort, Leonurus)

Latin Name: Semen Leonuri

Properties: acrid, cold, slightly bitter, slightly toxic

Actions: moves blood and regulates menses, promotes urination, clears and cools liver, brightens eyes

Medical Indications: amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, premenstrual abdominal pain, irregular menstruation, infertility, postpartum abdominal pain, headaches, red and swollen eyes

Contraindications: not to be used in blood and Yin deficiencies, not to be used in Yan deficiencies with prolaps

Caution: to be used with strickt caution during pregnancy, long-term use and/or overdose can be toxic to kidneys

Dosage: 9 to 30 grams
